So, I finally moved on!
By Hand London’s ‘Charlotte’ skirt seemed the perfect, next choice. I arrived too late to join the online sewalong (what a fab idea), but this did allow me to get plenty of inspiration from the many, finished Charlottes already posted up.
To keep things simple I opted for the plain version in my favourite navy blue. Pencil skirts are ideal for my shape and frame, so I figured I’d get loads of use out of it too. By Hand London’s text instructions are clear and concise, but the online tutorials, featuring tips and an abundance of photographs were invaluable, even for a beginner like me 🙂
Everything was going swimmingly until I got to the invisible zipper… After the third excruciating attempt and the air having gone officially blue, I finally slumped, defeated to a local seamstress, who very kindly tutored me through it. Thank you! (I’ve since invested in a special foot to conquer this job, which makes the world of difference). I had to chop several inches off the length and reinforce the split after it’s first outing, when it proved a little too much of a ‘wiggle’, but overall I’m pretty impressed and it’s had loads of outings since 🙂
Oh, and I finally overcame my camera shyness…
Very cute skirt and look forward to seeing your garment in MMM14.
Thank you! Hoping MMM14 will get me wearing more of my home sewn items more creatively. Are you taking part too?
